Facing Giants With the Confidence That God Goes Before You

Person in orange jacket standing on rocky peak, overlooking stunning Alps scenery.

This morning, as we were praying, one word rose clearly to the surface…formidable.
The definition stopped us in our tracks. Formidable means inspiring awe or respect through something impressively large, powerful, intense, or daunting.

That word wasn’t spoken lightly. It carried weight.

As we sat with it, we sensed God inviting His people to look honestly at what stands before them right now. Not to shrink back. Not to deny the challenge. But to recognize that what lies ahead may feel formidable because it sits at the edge of your inheritance.

Giants Often Guard God’s Promises

Throughout Scripture, the land God gives is rarely empty.
In Deuteronomy chapter 2, Israel’s inheritance is already assigned, yet giants occupy the territory. The same is true for Esau’s land. For Lot’s descendants. For Caleb’s portion.

God’s promise does not erase resistance. It reveals it.

If you’re facing something that feels large, intimidating, or overwhelming, pause and ask yourself:

  • What is the giant standing in the land God has promised me
  • What mountain feels immovable right now

Giants do not mean delay. They mark territory.

Speak to the Mountain, Not Around It

Jesus speaks directly to this reality in Mark 11.
He does not tell us to analyze the mountain or fear it. He tells us to speak to it.

Faith is not passive. It is deliberate, spoken, and rooted in trust.

But Jesus also makes something very clear. We do not go to battle carrying unforgiveness. Hearts weighed down by resentment weaken authority. Forgiveness is not a side note, it’s preparation.

Before you speak to the mountain, let go of what doesn’t belong in your hands.

Naming the Giants in Front of You

As we prayed, specific “giants” surfaced again and again:

  • A new job or promotion that feels beyond your capacity
  • A contract or project with more responsibility than support
  • A ministry or calling that feels lonely right now
  • Continuing forward without the backing you once had
  • Stepping out while feeling unseen or under-resourced

For some, the giant wasn’t opposition.
It was walking forward with God alone.

That season can feel just as formidable.

It Is Never Too Late to Take the Hill

Caleb’s story in Joshua 14 is impossible to ignore.
At eighty-five years old, he asks for the hill country, fortified cities and all.

Age did not disqualify him. Timing did not diminish the promise.
God had already weakened the giants.

Hear this clearly: what stands before you is not as strong as it once was.
God is no longer with what resists you. He is with you.

Remember How God Has Delivered You Before

David did not face Goliath by ignoring his past.
He remembered the lion. He remembered the bear.

Before the stone ever flew, courage was already built.

Look back.

Where has God already delivered you
What victories prove His faithfulness

Those moments matter. They are evidence.

The Battle Is Still the Lord’s

David ran toward the battle, not away from it.
He carried no sword of his own, yet he finished the fight with the enemy’s weapon.

That is how God works.

What rises against you will not overcome you.
What intimidates you will not define you.

There is territory God has already assigned to you…promotion, provision, healing, freedom, authority. He has signed the papers. No one else is receiving what was meant for you.

Speak With Confidence and Move Forward

So name the giant.
Name the mountain.

Then speak to it.

You do not fight alone.
You do not fight unprepared.
You do not fight for something God has not already promised.

God goes before you.
The battle is His.
And what stands in your way will not remain standing.

Know that you are being prayed for and that courage is rising.
