When Hard Seasons Suddenly Shift

Good morning, beloved. It’s Tess, and I’m so blessed to be here with you today.

I want to talk about something close to my heart, those prolonged seasons of hardship that feel like they’ll never end. Maybe you know the ones. The days stretch on heavy, and no matter how hard you pray, it feels like the clouds won’t lift. I’ve walked through seasons like that, and I’ll be honest—there were moments it felt crushing.

But here’s the good news. Hard seasons do not last forever.

The Power of a “Suddenly”

I remember once praying desperately, asking Father to let me glimpse the very edge of dawn breaking after a long night. And one day…it happened. Suddenly, things shifted. The season of heartache began to pass. It wasn’t because of my strength or my striving, but because God had already prepared the moment when everything would change.

Beloved, that same shift is coming for you.

The word suddenly shows up often in Scripture. Suddenly, there was an earthquake that opened the prison doors in Acts 16. Suddenly, a sound like a rushing mighty wind filled the house at Pentecost. Suddenly, angels appeared in the night sky to announce the birth of Christ.

When God moves, it can happen in an instant.

Surrender Opens the Way

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that Father will never override our free will. He waits for us to invite Him in. Sometimes we stay stuck in a prolonged trial because we’re relying on our own limited understanding. We try to fix it ourselves, but all the while, He’s waiting for our surrender.

When we finally let go and say, Father, I can’t do this on my own, please come take over, that’s when His grace rushes in. That’s when the suddenly happens.

James 4:6 reminds us, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Humility is simply admitting that we need Him. And beloved, He longs to help you. He loves the stuffing out of you and has already prepared the solution to your need.

Promises to Hold On To

I want to share two passages for you to look up when you have a quiet moment. Both are especially beautiful in the Amplified Classic version because they capture the depth of the original languages:

  • Ephesians 2:10 – a reminder that you are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that He prepared ahead of time for you to walk in. Your path is already laid out.
  • Romans 11:29 – the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable. He does not take them back. What He has spoken over your life still stands.

Together, these verses remind us that no matter how long the season has felt, God’s promises for your life have not changed.

Watch for the Shift

So let me ask you, beloved, are you ready for your suddenly? Are you watching with expectation for God to open the right door, send the right person, or make the impossible possible?

I encourage you today to surrender every detail to Him. Tell Him everything. Let Him guide, lead, and direct you out of the hard season. And then watch with joy as His timing unfolds.

Because suddenly…everything can be different.
