This morning, as we were praying, something very tender and powerful unfolded. Our hearts were especially drawn toward those who are young in the Lord. There has been so much noise in the world lately…constant reports, fear-based messaging, and uncertainty…that it can feel overwhelming when you’re just beginning your walk with God.
This reflection is meant to steady your heart and remind you that the faith God has already placed within you is powerful. As you learn to trust His Word, you are not exposed or unprotected. You are covered.
Learning to Anchor Yourself in God’s Word
If you’re new to Scripture, it can feel like a lot. The Bible is big, and it’s not always obvious where to begin. As we prayed, we felt drawn very clearly to Psalm 91. If you haven’t spent time there yet, this is a beautiful place to start.
Psalm 91 is a declaration of God’s protection, nearness, and care. It isn’t written from a place of fear; it’s written from confidence.
One verse stood out strongly as we prayed.
“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I confidently trust.”
There is something important here. This is something we say. Speaking God’s Word aloud strengthens faith. It brings truth from the page into your heart and into your daily life.
Living From a Place of Trust, Not Fear
As Psalm 91 continues, it speaks of God covering you, sheltering you, and protecting you. It describes being held safely under His wings and guarded by His faithfulness.
Many scholars believe the imagery of wings and covering points to the ministry of angels, God assigning protection and care over His people. When you meditate on this, allow your heart to rest in the reality that you are not navigating life alone.
Another passage we often return to in prayer is found in 1 John 5:18. This verse reminds us that Jesus carefully watches over you, and that His presence within you protects you from the enemy gaining any hold.
When you sit with this truth, faith grows stronger. Fear begins to lose its grip.

Guarding Your Heart as You Grow
One thing we felt very strongly while praying is how important it is to keep your heart clean as you grow in faith. Holding on to criticism, anger, resentment, or guilt makes you vulnerable, not because God withdraws, but because those things disrupt peace and clarity.
This includes how you treat yourself.
It’s very common for new believers to be gracious and loving toward others, but harsh and unforgiving toward themselves. That kind of double-mindedness creates inner tension. Love and truth must flow both inward and outward.
Forgiving yourself, releasing the past, and replacing self-criticism with compassion is not weakness. It is spiritual maturity.
Choosing Love, Mercy, and Grace Daily
A simple but powerful practice is to intentionally choose what you meditate on. Love, forgiveness, mercy, grace, joy, and truth are not abstract ideas; they are environments your soul can live in.
Galatians 5 describes the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and this can become a daily guide for you. Take one fruit at a time. Imagine yourself responding with peace where you normally feel fear, or joy where frustration usually rises.
This isn’t pretending. It’s training your heart to align with the Spirit who already lives within you.
Faith Grows Through Relationship
Faith is nurtured through Scripture, prayer, honesty, and relationship with God. You don’t need perfect words. You don’t need to hide anything. God already knows your heart, and He invites you to share it freely.
As you stay open, grounded, and connected, faith will grow naturally. You will find yourself trusting God more, fearing less, and walking with greater confidence in His care.
You Are Not Walking Alone
Finally, know this. You are not alone in this journey. You are being prayed for. You are supported. You are covered.
God is faithful, and He delights in guiding those who are just beginning to discover how deeply loved and protected they truly are.
